Rodney B. Young  III, M.D.

Plastic Surgeon

From an early age, Dr. Young wanted to be a physician.  He chose plastic surgery because it incorporated creativity with science.  He finds his work rewarding because for more than two decades he has witnessed his patients’ change not only physically but also through an increased self-confidence.

In addition to his private practice, Dr. Young is an Associate Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina.  He has been on active staff since 1987.  This appointment not only fulfills his desire to teach and to give back to his profession, it also keeps him current in the latest plastic surgery techniques and advances.

  • Graduated from Davidson College
  • Received his medical degree from the University of South Florida
  • General and plastic surgical residencies were completed at the Medical University of South Carolina
  • Member of Charleston County Medical Society
  • Published journal articles in Plastic Surgery
  • Voted Best Doctors of America from 2001-2010
  • Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery
  • Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons

Dr. Young and his wife Rebecca are supporters and actively involved in fundraising for Pattison’s Academy, a local non-profit for disabled children.  Dr. Young is an avid cyclist and sponsor of the local Charleston Bicycle Company team, and the Livestrong Foundation through Ride for Hope.  He enjoys boating, digital photography, kayaking, tennis and his Harley Davidson.

A wonderful serenity has taken possession of my entire soul, like these sweet mornings of spring which I enjoy with my whole heart. I am alone, and feel the charm of existence in this spot, which was created for the bliss of souls like mine. I am so happy, my dear friend, so absorbed in the exquisite sense of mere tranquil existence, that I neglect my talents.

I should be incapable of drawing a single stroke at the present moment; and yet I feel that I never was a greater artist than now. When, while the lovely valley teems with vapour around me, and the meridian sun strikes the upper surface of the impenetrable foliage of my trees, and but a few stray gleams steal into the inner sanctuary, I throw myself down among the tall grass by the trickling stream; and, as I lie close to the earth, a thousand unknown plants are noticed by me.
